New 2023 Honda Civic Type R

  The new  Honda Civic Type R  will finally be unwrapped tomorrow (Thursday 21 July), as the hugely anticipated hot hatchback enters its sixth generation and 25th year on sale.  The Type R was previously teased in an image (below) which gave little away beyond confirming it will be marked out from the standard Civic by traditional red Type R badging, a bespoke honeycomb grille and a more aggressive air intake arrangement.  But further details – most notably about what lies behind the grille – will only be made public at the car's public debut, the date for which was confirmed 50 years (to the day) since the first-generation  Honda Civic  went on sale. Maserati previews

  A track-only, extreme version of the   Maserati MC20   has been previewed with new downforced-focused bodywork and increased power. Although based on the marque’s flagship sports car, the Project24’s bodywork has been dramatically overhauled and its underpinnings upgraded, with not much of the original car left. Renders released today show an aerodynamically focused design, with new features added to maximise downforce, Maserati says. These include deep bonnet air-flow scoops, big diffusers front and back, and a huge adjustable spoiler.  The firm has also striven to cut weight from the model, with the new bodywork and upgraded chassis, both carbonfibre, helping it to weigh in at less than ​​1250kg dry. Cadillac Celestiq concept

  The striking new Celestiq concept is a preview of   Cadillac’s   first electric saloon, which will draw on the legacy of era-defining models like the Eldorado and Brougham.  Due within the next two years, the Celestiq will be the US marque’s second electric production model after the Lyriq SUV. It will use the same Ultium platform as that car and a range of EVs from sibling brands  Chevrolet  and Hummer - and, soon, newly partnered  Honda .  The Ultium platform is to General Motors what  MEB  is to the Volkswagen Group. Modular in its conception, it houses a uniform battery charging and management system and a range of motors and inverters – with varying outputs according to model – known as Ultium Drive.  The new  Hummer EV  pick-up is the first production car to use the architecture, employing a double-deck battery pack for a mammoth 212.7kWh of capacity and upwards of 300 miles of range. Triumph TE-1 prototype

  Triumph Motorcycles has revealed more details of its Triumph TE-1 development project following the completion of final testing. This electric motorbike prototype won’t go into production but Triumph confirms development of the first  in a new generation of electric production bikes  is now underway. The 135mph TE-1 draws heavily on the attributes of the 1160cc, Triumph Speed Triple producing 175bhp compared to 177.5 bhp for the three-cylinder machine. Peak torque is 80lb ft giving the electric bike a 0-60mph time of 3.6 seconds and, bettering the Triple, a 0-100mph time of 6.2 seconds. Range is claimed to be best in class at 100 miles (on the official WMTC test cycle) and the battery can be charged from 0-80% in 20 minutes on a 50kW charger.
